English Synopsis
Jérôme Chambard (Michel Simon) works as a handyman for a community of nuns but his religious education leaves a lot to be desired. The bishop (Lucien Barroux) comes to visit and it turns out he is a former classmate of Chambard. To help him keep his job, the bishop had Chambard perform penance: he must learn the Ten Commandments by heart. Several vignettes illustrating the Ten Commandments follow, narrated by the devil himself.

Jérôme Chambard (Michel Simon) est un factotum dans un couvent, mais son éducation religieuse laisse beaucoup à désirer. L’évêque (Lucien Barroux) rend visite au couvent et il s’avère être un ancien camarade de classe de Chambard. Pour l’aider à garder son emploi, l’évêque lui ordonne de faire pénitence en mémorisant les dix commandements. Plusieurs vignettes illustrant les dix commandements suivent, narrées par le Diable lui-même.
