English Synopsis
This loose adaptation of King Lear is set in Corsica, and follows the family of a well-to-do landowner, Ottavio Della Rocca (Jacques Weber) in the years immediately after the Second World War. Since he has no male heirs, he decides to protect his legacy by arranging a marriage between his favourite daughter, Vanina (Hélèna Soubeyrand), and the son of a nouveau riche ex-farmer (Thibault Vinçon). However, Vanina is unwilling to marry her father’s chosen match. Ottavio is enraged and saddened by Vanina’s stubbornness, but is unwilling to cede his estate to either of his elder daughters, Flavia (Hélène Seuzaret) and Antonia (Amira Casar).

Cette adaptation libre du Roi Lear se situe en Corse, et retrace l’histoire familiale d’un riche propriétaire foncier, Ottavio Della Rocca (Jacques Weber) au lendemain de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Sans héritier mâle, il décide d’assurer la transmission de ses biens en arrangeant un mariage entre sa fille préférée, Vanina (Hélèna Soubeyrand), et le fils d’un ex-fermier nouveau riche (Thibault Vinçon). Cependant, Vanina ne souhaite pas épouser l’homme choisi par son père. L’obstination de Vanina plonge Ottavio dans une grande colère et tristesse, mais il n’est pas disposé à céder sa fortune à ses deux filles aînées, Flavia (Hélène Seuzaret) et Antonia (Amira Casar).
